John Culberson and His Tea Party Played Politics with FEMA Funding; Don’t Let Them Do It Again

HOUSTON (Nov. 4, 2012): A little more than a year ago, the House Republicans, including John Culberson, voted to slash the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) budget by 40%.  The President had requested $5.1 billion but the Tea Party-controlled House only approved $3.65 billion, and only after insisting on off-setting budget cuts to unrelated programs before even passing that amount.

HOUSTON (October 22, 2012): Incumbent Tea Party Congressman John Culberson has a long record of indiscriminately cutting government programs in the name of federal deficit reduction.[1]  This includes voting against the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the organization responsible for the production of Sesame Street and its educational and lovable characters like Big Bird.

Paul Ryan and John Culberson want to dismantle Medicare and give the top 1% a huge tax cut

HOUSTON (Aug. 20, 2012):  Mitt Romney’s selection of radical right-wing Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as his vice-presidential running mate makes it clear that a Romney Administration would be for the wealthiest American, for the dismantling of Medicare and other social safety nets, and for more of the failed policies that led to our current recession and high unemployment. Local Congressman John Culberson has supported his Tea Party colleague 95% of the time, including voting twice for his devastating budget.

Transportation matters

James Cargas believes in METRO and the future of light rail in Houston. The tea party darling Rep. John Culberson, who Cargas is running to unseat, is actively attempting to dismantle METRO's light rail by turning down federal funding and calling for more studies and audits of METRO's finances, after they've been strangled by Culberson's practices in the first place. Houston Deserves Better.

Phone Bank for James

As President Obama has stated numerous times, he cannot govern without like-minded Members of Congress being in a position of power to help move forth his agenda. My friend, James Cargas, is the only candidate running in the July 31st Primary Run-off who has proven he has the credentials and the ability to beat John Culberson this November.

James Cargas’ Statement on the Supreme Court’s Arizona Anti-Immigrant Law Ruling

I applaud the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling today to strike down most of a controversial Arizona Republican anti-immigrant law by finding that three of the four provisions inappropriately infringed on the federal government’s exclusive Constitutional power to control immigration.   A close reading of the decision does not offer much hope that the remaining provision will remain in force very long.

DREAM Act: President Takes Action Where Congress Has Failed for 11 Years

(HOUSTON) June 19, 2012:  After a do-nothing Congress failed to take action on the bipartisan DREAM Act for 11 years, President Obama took action on Friday, when he announced that his Administration will implement parts of the legislation allowing some undocumented people to emerge from the shadows.  The President removed the fear of deportation for about 1.34 million law-abiding young people brought here by their parents and who have earned a degree at an American University or College or served in our military.

Is She Really A Democrat?

(HOUSTON) June 7, 2012:  Lissa Squiers has never voted in a Democratic Primary until this May after she suddenly decided to be a Democratic candidate. Squiers did not vote for the President in 2008. NGP VAN, the Democratic Party’s voter database, shows that James Cargas voted in four out of the last five Democratic Parties; Squiers’ record is void of any participation in primary elections (this year being the only exception) during the past twenty years, the period of data retained in NGP VAN. (Copies of Squiers and Cargas’ NGP VAN voting records are attached)

Friday and at your precincts on Tuesday, May 29th.
